Title: Part Vase / Part Cow - Czech Glass...

Does the label on this fantastically fun and faintly fresian flower-container rings any bells with anyone?

It looks very similar to the Bohemia Crystal labels that I see, though not quite the same.  :)

It appears that your label is that of a distributor.

I hope this helps a little.

Well I bought it because I thought it was quirky and would suit the black/white colour scheme I have in my office, so I'm not really too concerned if it's not by any particular recognised glassworks - but I'm sure I could easily turn a profit on it either way if I get bored of it, purely because it's so decorative (and because I got it cheaply!).

But it's nice to know, if possible, which glass came from where and was made by who.

 :D

I just love it.  :D It is really quirky.  :D I showed it to hubby and he thought it was great. I only buy the things that I like. As you say, it is great to know when and where and by whom, but unfortunately not always possible.

Here are a few Bohemian labels for reference.

Thanks for the weblinks.  :)

I don't see my cow vase anywhere, so at least that means there's a reasonable chance of it not being brand new!   :D

No, that is a manufacturers label for Sklarny Bohemia, Podebrady, and of the four factories within the group is likely to be a product of Podebrady glassworks itself, and the vase dates to mid/ late 1980's or very early 1990's.

Marcus

Marcus,
I stand corrected
Another note to add to my gowing list :!:
Which at least means I am learning something new everyday

Pinkspoons,
I apologise, from what I understood from reading on the site was that the sticker was widely used on any of a number of glass works in Czechoslovakia.

The Bohemia Glass labels are easy to get confused, but the gold coloured(now blue, and stating Czech Republic) Bohemia Glass or Bohemia Crystal "Made in Czechoslovakia" are Glassexport/Skloexport labels (registered in the 1950's and 1963 respectively) and not directly connected in any way to labels for Sklarny Bohemia, or any other glass-works. In fact you can often see both factory and Glassexport labels on the same piece of glass.

See this example of double labelling from Sklarny Inwald/Sklo Union Rudolfova Hut' with the Glassexport label: http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/displayimage.php?album=33&pos=5

The  label as shown on the black/white vase would have been used for any of the factories within the Sklarny Podebrady group at that time. That also included a couple of semi-autonomous decorating shops linked to Zavod 2, Nizbor works, once Ruckl's and now, once more Ruckl.
Once re-privatised Ruckl resumed the use of its historic Stork label.

Regards,

Marcus

That's no problem - we're all learning!  :)

Thank you for all the information, Marcus. It has all been duly noted.  :)

I thought I'd give this thread a little revival with some better photographs, just in case any further developments can be made - i.e. assigning a designer.
