Title: Murano Sculptures!
Post by: svazzo on June 22, 2006, 06:19:02 PM
Though I would also add this on...

We talk all the time about bowls, vases, and ashtrays, but what about true Murano Sculptures!?!

Maybe, if we can, lets try and post pieces that are more "Abstract" in nature, not the figural pieces as much, but if you want to go that way, that is fine too...
Hope to see some amazing pieces on here! :)

Still can't stop drooling, Anne

No, it's a great topic Javier, but I suppose it depends on your interpretation of 'sculpture'. I have loads of animals and birds, and also freeformed vases so can list these if you want.  :D

Hi David,
Guess since I did a little scupture in college, but never was able to play with glass
I wanted to see something more along the abstract side of things.
Like the large Salviati sculptures that were recently on Ebay.
There were 3 of them, really nice. I thought of bidding, but they went way over what
I thought I could get them at.
I have only 2 actual sculptural pieces, 1 signed Cenedese,
and this one that I think is Seguso....

I know I have seen it before but have no idea what site it was.
It was a while ago too, so probably the reference pics are alrady deleted.

This one is mine and was purchased at TJ Maxx years ago, before the Chinese stuff took over. It has a generic made in Murano lable on the bottom.

Sorry about the bad pic. Its really hard to photograph. Yes the base is glass and is black and satinized. Terry

Nice one Terry!  Hmm...pity TKMaxx don't sell things like that now...or at least, I haven't seen any.  :x  I'll keep looking!    :D

Terry, this looks exactly like the V.Nason 'knot' sculpture I've been drooling over - see Anne's eBay link two from the top.

The sculpture shape is the same but Terry's appears to have a stripe pattern (or is it a reflective effect off the black base Terry?) whereas the eBay one looks like clear glass? And the base/stand part is different.  They are both gorgeous though. 8)

David, get down to TKMaxx and see if they still have any in stock. :D

This piece has incised "Oggetti Murano" signature on the side, and a completely faded plastic label.  Not a masterpiece, but nice, simple piece.

Here's my most favorite sculpture.  The seller told me he is 100% certain that it is a Cenedese piece by Da Ros.  It is seriously  radioactive (hopefully not a health hazard).  It has a red generic foil Murano label, but no signature.  Somebody else out there in cyberspace (by way of Florida) thinks it's Gaspari for Salviati: http://www.trocadero.com/blackpanthergallery/items/497982/item497982store.html (http://www.trocadero.com/blackpanthergallery/items/497982/item497982store.html)

Does anyone know for certain who made this piece?
Thanks,
Charles.

Title: Murano Sculpture
Post by: legaleagle on July 04, 2006, 03:04:19 PM
I recently purchased this piece of Murano art scuplture at an auction.  The red portion has silver flecks in it.  Can someone help me to identify what I have.  I paid $45.00 for it but feel it is worth far more.  However I am new to the Murano world and only have a couple of pieces.  This forum seemed a good place to get accurate information.

Thanks,
Joyce

Ok, I hope this works.....to a site I posted a picture of the scupture.

Hi Joyce. Welcome to the board. Your link won't let us in, it's a private album. I suggest you post your picture here http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/. It was created for the message board AND start a new thread on the Murano board asking for ID help.

This thread was created for a general chat about Murano sculpture so you could edit your post on this thread as well to give a new link to the picture and change your question to say basically 'look what I found' or something similar. Hope this makes sense :!:

According to the link he provided it is V. Nason.

Charles I would say you piece certainly has all the looks of being Da Ros for Cenedese. I've not come across enough of Gaspari sculptural pieces to offer an opinion on that as an option.
