Title: Pressed glass fans - Help!
Post by: Chris Harrison on August 29, 2006, 01:17:14 PM
This morning I was the lucky recipient of 4 banana boxes of pressed glass - fruit bowls, sundae dishes, comports, plates, etc etc.

A lot of it is tat, but a couple of dozen pieces are rather nice.

Unfortunately nothing is marked and I know very little about pressed glass.

I have most of the big standard works (Jackson, Miller, etc) and these don't help much.

Can anyone suggest any easily-available reference material to help me identify the patterns?

Thanks,
Chris

Hi Chris,

It is not a book, but a fantastic place to start, Pamela's Site (http://www.pressglas-pavillon.de/index2.html)

 Thank you Della!
Chris, you are always welcome here regarding pressed glass.
It could be of great advantage to know where you are situated - thank you!

Thanks, Della and Pamela.  Wow, that's some site, Pamela!  Sadly, now that I've taken a better look at the boxes, I don't think I have much that features.

So far I've managed to pick out a couple of small pieces each of Davidson, Sowerby and what I think is Czech Comecon-era glass.  The rest is a mystery, but - to me at least - not very interesting, either.

I'll keep searching online for a while longer before posting any pictures.

even if not featuring, Chris, the smallest plate with an undescribed pattern could be a missing link for collectors like me - please do not hesitate to post pictures! Thank you!

Now then, Pamela, be careful what you wish for...

...no, seriously, I'll try and put some photos up on Monday, if I can manage to get organised.
