I saw this candlestick about 18 months ago, liked it but did not at the time know who designed it or where it was made. I turned down the chance to buy it as I thought 50 quid was too much for me. I really like Erik Hoglund's work so when I realised what it was I had missed out on I felt a bit sick and have regretted not buying it ever since. Each time I have seen that seller since, he did not have the candlestick.
Until today, I could not believe my eyes, there it was and now it lives with me. I am a very happy bunny. :hiclp:
So the moral of the story is, if you like it buy it. Alternatively pray like a Nun on amphetamine and hope the glass gods smile on you like they did on me today. ;D

great news. These are not so easy to find. I have 3-4 different ones.

Thanks for helping me identify my piece. I also have a Boda Hoglund 'Primitive' candlestick. Do you know an approx date? I'm guessing late 60s/early 70s. Can post a picture if you'd like to see it.

show me a pic please.
-
Yes please, post a picture. ;D
In terms of date the design is probably 50s or 60s, production may have been later. Does yours have a number engraved on it? They are not always on the base, sometimes they are on one side or the back just above the base. Usually something like Boda H xxxx, Boda can be in tiny writing, occasionally other variations are found like Boda H xxx Hoglund.

signatures are either Boda HXXX , HXXX/XX or just HXXX or HXXX/XX
/XX indicates the height.
-
Thanks both. It's been a while since I looked. But it's definitely marked Boda something. Will check it out when I get in and post some pics tomorrow all being well. Cheers.

Usually but not always, this bowl (which of course is not a sculpture with or without a candlestick stuck on top) : https://picasaweb.google.com/Johnmj100/ErikHoglund#5460074453207805010
is signed Boda H98 Höglund.

Very jammy John.
(That's your nickname for today - jammyjohn. :P I know you've had a bit more luck than just this!)
It just goes to show you're right to listen to your guts when they tell you things. :smg: :smg: :smg:

Eek! Don't tempt fate Sue, it has not arrived yet. :-X

:P ;)
I was obviously referring to the successful sales you've managed to complete, despite plonkers messing you around.
:ooh:
I'm not risking putting any kybosh on things for you, honest, really, cross-my-heart........ :thud:

I know, I know, sorry, just a bit twitchy here.....

Here are a couple of pictures of mine. It's approx 6.5in/16.5cm tall and marked Boda H1090 to the base.

Lovely! Good photos too, they are not easy to photograph well.
I bought that same sculpture a week or two ago but mine does not have the candlestick, I tend to think this one looks quite 'male' and the one I started the thread with quite 'female'. I have no idea if this is what Höglund intended.
Prices for some of Erik Höglund's designs (mostly the little bowls) have gone through the roof in the last few weeks. Presumably they will settle back down at some stage.

Yes. I can see exactly what you mean about the 'male' and 'female' appearance. They're great objects. Will be on the look out for more. Thanks John.
