Hi Greg,

that Ivo is always so fast...  ;D I´d agree with Ikora. What makes it special is the fact, that
it´s from their Ikora Medusa range. These items are very similar to Loetz Schaumglas BTW, but
not that easy to find and I haven´t seen a Medusa lamp at all by now. Great find!
I wonder if it glows under UV?

Cheers,
Dirk

edit: Unfortunetaly I don´t have the Ikora book at hand to check the exact date, but somewhere
1930´s... Sometimes the metal mounting has the WMF ´Turmmarke´ somewhere, a stylised
       tower.

Gosh, I have a vase in this colourway... it doesn't glow with UV, it's just yellow and white.
I had suspected it might be WMF Ikora........ (it's packed away)
thanks for the info re. the name being Medusa!

Better check it here, Sue. Like I said - it´s quite easy to confuse with Loetz foam.  :)
Here are a few examples on Alfredo Villanueva-Collado´s site:
http://sites.google.com/site/loetzandglass/loetz-4--from-n-to-w
Shape and size will be a good indicator.

It's a WMF sort of shape - a flared trumpet on a rounded, integral foot - and the glass is very thick - not nearly as delicate as the Loetz, Dirk. I think it's just under 8" tall.
I'm fairly sure it was id'd as WMF a good while ago - I just didn't know the name - or that it was an unusual colourway - although I've not seen any more since I found mine.  :smg:

I really appreciate the link, Dirk, thank-you!
(Even though it makes my WMF bit look a bit dull in comparison..  ::) )

Good afternoon Dirk...... From your response I'm assuming rightly or wrongly that there is a book contianing WMF Lamp styles etc.... I have the current Ikora book on bowls vases etc but desperately seeking one on lamps. If there is one available I would very much appreciate details of how I might obtain a copy please.

Regards and many thanks

Gareth

Hi Gareth,
an interesting point! Indeed there are no lamps in the Ikora book now you mention it and to my regret I
don´t have an explanation. A theory: possibly they were shaped from the same moulds as the vases?
At least in this case
example on Kilian´s site (http://www.glaskilian.de/Tischlampe-IKORA-Glas-circa.143+B6YmFja1BJRD0xNDMmcHJvZHVjdElEPTM0NzMmcGlkX3Byb2R1Y3Q9MTQzJmRldGFpbD0_.0.html)
we can see a strong resemblance to the 1936 vase on page 151 of the book.
Beyond that I have to commit I´m rather clueless...  :ac1:

There was a book published by Arnoldsche called WMF Ikora-Beleuchtungskoerper der WMF in 2006 ISBN 3897901927. It can be found on amazon.de but not on the Arnoldsche publisher's web site. Maybe it is out of print.

Hi Anton,
thanks for the info! I did some googling and now I wonder if the book was really published at all. Maybe they were
just meaning to publish it but never did? All I could find were announcements and a picture of the book cover - not
a single copy around, a review or anything else...  ???

Hi Dirk,

You are correct. The book wasn't published. I wrote to Arnoldsche Art Publishers and got this reply:

Quote
The third book of the WMF book series isnt published. We have published the first two volumes WMF Ikora & Myra Glass and WMF Ikora Metall. Unfortunately the third books was a proposal. We are sorry to give you no better news.

With best regards

Bettina Goldschmidt

Project Manager

Maybe if enough people contact Arnoldsche they might reconsider publishing the Ikora lamp book.

Many thanks for the updates....... and a real shame as these are popular and collectible items ....and deserving to be recognised.
