Title: Stunning Glasses (Auction tomorrow)
Post by: dinklepip on November 28, 2012, 06:00:49 PM
spotted these in my local auction today which are being auctioned tomorrow and I would love to have a shot at them.  Has anyone any idea as to origin and age please, they are a very pale green colour with a beautiful design I have never seen before.   There are 9 in total but one has broken off at the stem.  Help please before the auction tomorrow late morning...thank youuuuuuuuuuu

Very nice? Are they all different?

Look to be either etched and engraved OR sandblast and engraved, stems blown too.

sorry Frank, as I wasn't allowed over the counter and had shed loads of other stuff to look at, I only picked out two but I would say the pattern is the same on each from where I was looking. Tempted tempted tempted, but not a clue in how high to go especially when I don't know their origin

fancy these two large glass animals too but can't decide on their age, don't think they are that old unless I am wrong

Hi Lust, it's a deer and camel, can't find anything on the net about these either, they have listed them as art deco in the catalogue

catalogue also has the glasses listed as Bohemian although they arn't that clever at that auction and not particularly great on glass, they have some lovely candlesticks that they have listed as Sowerby when in fact they are Vallerysthal

We have a couple of people would recognise glasses but if in time... probably worth buying if not many bids.

Camel and friend I would agree are 30s to 50s latest. Maybe Scandinavian or Italian...

Generally people do not discuss prices or values on here because values can go up as well as down depending on the demand/fashion of the buying market and the availability or scarcity of an item.  I would say that counts whether you are buying to keep and use/display as a collector, or you are buying to sell on as a seller.
I generally do not buy unless I love something and that seems to be a good enough reason. How much to pay is dependent on how much I desire the object in question.
I think they are great, and had I been there, and not already had a fab set of Christmas use only glasses, I would have bought them to use at Christmas :)

in the first pic or two think I'm seeing a gold coloured knop  -  was that inclusions or painted, and if painted then I'd suggest modern.      But none of this really matters - you're obviously passionately and lustfully in love with them, so you won't sleep at night unless you own them ;)          I'd go for second half C20  - perhaps it's fairies and Bacchus in the vinyard.
Try frightening the other bidders  -  shove your paddle up high for all to see and simply hold it there - hoping the others wilt quickly.
Of course it might not work, and you could end up spending the gas, electricity, and food bill all on one day ;)

I thought I had got the glasses at 140, but it seems I missed them by another bid, as it was on line I couldn't keep up lol.  Oh well pfft

Well, the glasses themselves were lovely - really well made, and the stems were just so elegant. But while the etching/engraving was interesting and unusual - it really wasn't of the best quality - the depictions of the vines and leaves around the top left a lot to be desired. I would think whoever bought them paid the top price they would achieve - they would not have been a bargain.
Do not despair Dinklepip - there will be other beautiful glasses with your name on, somewhere.  :-*

The glasses were at the Kempton fair today I was not interested in buying but asked how much they were  200.00 and was told they were Venetian ,they sold a little later on.
