Title: Greener sugar bowl rd 626977 for show. ?
Post by: brucebanner on June 27, 2016, 05:19:18 PM
There is another link on here that mentions this Rd number but no pictures i can see, it's either 686977 but i can not find a matching maker or 626977, looking at my close up picture it picks it up much better than the eye.

I'm guessing a sugar basin although i see so many of these large bowls could they all be for sugar?.

6 1/4 inches in diameter across the rim, 5 inches in height and 3 1/2 inches across the base.

agree the details on the glass aren't too clear, but my opinion is that this is more likely to be 626977 for Greener which is dated 22/10/1913 - I'd suggest this as much as anything else because the 'Blue Book' omits reference to Rd. 686977 (would be early in 1922 I think).             This later No. might be for a glass item, but equally could be for wood, metal, ceramic, or a wallpaper design.
Unfortunately, I can't help with any National Archive images for these two Nos.  -  apart from a few that I've photographed especially, I don't automatically have pictures after early 1884, but can of course include these two when I next visit, in the coming days.

Fred might possibly have more to say on these Registrations.                Some sort of comport perhaps - but probably an unlidded sugar - they didn't seem to have a problem with obesity in those days, and consumed sugar at a rate of knots.

P.S.     I've tried to view the link from tigerchips, which I assume is the previous reference to Rd. 626977 referred to, but it seems to lead nowhere  :-\

Thank you for showing this, Chris.

Iíve never seen this pattern before, but I concur with Paul that the number is almost certainly 626977, pointing to the attribution of Greener and registered 22 October 1913 (about 8 years before their acquisition by Jobling).

Rd. 686977 is definitely from early 1922, and is CLASS I and nothing to do with glass, and the design here does match 626977 from Greener.

The stem is omitted from Greener's original factory drawing, but the design is easily recognizable.

Here are some photos of an oval clear glass dish in the design - 25cm long x 19cm wide x 7cm deep. (Permission for the re-use of these images on the GMB granted by hotham111).
