Thanks Dave, your collection must be amazing if thats about half of it. I am so jealous!

Chris, I have a flint bowl about 6 inches across on a chrome stand that I have wondered about. It sounds like it was made by the same people as your amberina bowl. When you look inside it the prunts are more oval than round. They are also on an odd angle. Mine has only one band, above the prunts. Above that is frosted. Also the fluted edge seems sharper - not flowing - like it was made with a knife pushed down on the hot glass. I know that sounds silly but its the best way I can describe it. I guess pinched would be the word for it instead of fluted or ruffled.

Hi Dee,

It sounds fascinating! I'd love to see a picture, when you have the chance.

Count the points on your prunts please. If there are only 6, it's possibly a Chinese copy, albeit an old one. See this message here and here. Today I saw a two interconnected dishes (like a cakestand, but they weren't plates) that looked like Davidson 269, except the flutes were sharp like yours and the frosted bit was textured rather than frosted but I didn't have time to count the prunts. I'm pretty sure it wasn't Davidson. I may have to go back and get counting

Sorry Christine, I should have thought of that as I have read the other posts.
Just checked and it only has six points. I would to go and have a chat with the antique dealer I bought it off but last time we went past they were closed down.  :( Oh well, we live and learn I guess.

Don't apologise. Plagarism seems to have been rife, and probably still is, in the glass industry in the 20th century and Glen has only just worked this mystery out (as far as she can). Your piece is a similar vintage to the Davidson pieces and possibly less easy to find.

I've had this piece knocking around in the shed for years.  It's vaseline, about 5" across and I assume it's a Davidson 269 - it has 7 bobbles on the prunts.  This one has 'Made in England' stamped into the base though.  Do they all have that?  I haven't seen mention of it so far.   :-\

Max: My small round bowl has the same marking.  The small oval has no marking, nor does the larger bowl with the clamped on base.  I also have two small oval bowls in clear, and one of those has a gold paper label, MADE IN ENGLAND.  both of the small bowls were purchased without the marmalade EPNS frames and then I found the marmalades with the clear bowls in ebay auctions, and just swapped them out.  I use the clear versions (now with no frames) for candy or pocket change.

Thank you MrVaselineGlass  :D  Just a quirk then. Shame, I thought I had something unusual...no wonder it's been in the shed for years!  It was a gift from my ex-Mother-in-Law about 12 years ago so it's got some sentimental value anyway.  :) :)

It is a nice bowl!  Hope there are good memories for your ex-MIL.  If you ever see one of the little dishes (in clear) on ebay with a frame, you can usually pick them up fairly cheap (like a fiver) and then swap out the clear for the vaseline bowl.  I find they even come with the original EPNS spoon sometimes!
