Pale blue Mdina Bowl, signed & numbered - new?

(1/1)

Quackers:
Hi, I picked this up in a collectors centre during the week thinking what a nice bowl it was, turned it over and got quite a surprise when I saw a Mdina signature on the polished base.  I've never seen anything like it, it doesn't seem to be a current piece (not on their website anyway).  Anyone any idea if the number relates to the pattern or the year it was made???

23cm across and 8.5cm high. Signed "Mdina 1989".  It has a faint irridescence on the outside, more noticeable on the lower half where it is a more sandy colour.

Pip:
There has been an explanation on here before (by Mark Hill if I remember rightly) that explained the numbering system found on the base of some pieces of Mdina - I'll see if I can find the thread Tim...

EDIT: here's the link to the discussion I mentioned :-)

Thanks Pip - I tried to find it earlier - and failed ::)

If it's of any interest, I have a huge lollipop vase (and I mean huge - 15 inches tall) which is in this sort of colourway. It is blue/white on one side, orangey/white on the other (- I believe it to represent the sky during the day and at sunset). It is marked Mdina glass 02, and has a plastic label. I believe it to have been made by Olivia Said, Joseph Said's daughter, and a masterglassmaker in her own right.
