Masterclasses and Conference in the Scottish Highlands

(1/1)

lavendera:
There are spaces available on the following 'Design Element' masterclasses at North Lands Creative Glass in Lybster in the Scottish Highlands.  These classes are a unique opportunity for architects, designers and artists from all disciplines to explore glass in a design context - no glass experience is necessary.

24 August - 1 September: 'Thought, Process, Material, Innovation', with Peter Aldridge focusing on kilnforming and promoting innovative individual design solutions.

6 - 11 September: 'A Cohnceptual Play' with Susan Cohn identifying & illuminating the opportunities of 'hot' glass as a medium for design.

6 - 14 September: 'Why Glass?' with Paul Cocksedge and Angela Jarman exploring the problems faced when working with glass in a design context, concentrating on kilnforming techniques.

Situated in Lybster, a small fishing village on the far north-east coast of Scotland, North Lands provides the ideal location for stimulating a lively exchange of ideas whilst also allowing time for reflection and action in a professional environment.

Why not combine a Masterclass with North Lands Annual Conference on 3 - 4 September 2005 , also entitled 'The Design Element'?  -  In the last thirty years boundaries between art, industry and design have been eroded and become blurred. During this two-day conference, a wide-ranging group of speakers will explore individual approaches to the many interpretations of the term design. Speakers will include Masterclass leaders (excluding Klaus Moje and Paul Cocksedge), David Grant who set up a successful ceramics company in the Scottish Highlands, Stewart Drew, Professional Development Manager of the British Crafts Council, Gilbert Riedelbauch a practicing designer, maker and teacher and Jennifer Opie, former Curator of Ceramics and Glass, Victoria and Albert Museum. The conference will conclude with a panel discussion moderated by Tina Oldknow, Curator of Modern Glass at the Corning Museum of Glass.
