Hi there,
Just for the record, I would never, ever alter a signature or mark of any form and then put it in one of my books as authentic. I can see why it may be deemed to be a good idea in light of forgeries, but it defeats the point of a reference book. All the signatures and marks in my books are authentic as far as can be ascertained and, where necessary and possible, have been authenticated by different parties. In this case, members of the Harris family, the Wheelers and another party were consulted.
All the best,
Mark

Sorry Mark, Pip,

no offence intended...I know signatures in other publications are sometimes altered/obscured so thought it worth double checking with you first.

Happy to be corrected

S'ok Martyn - Mark did make a good point to me though about the signature picture which I probably wouldn't have sussed out had I not contacted him with your query.  He suggested that it's probably best not to upload a very hi-res image so that a potential forger couldn't blow it up to see the really fine detail - so I'll do a smaller lower-res image for the gallery.  I think it's very fortunate though (or unfortunate for the forgers) that MH's signature is so competent - it should prove pretty difficult for your average dodgy geezer to reproduce convincingly.

Lynne, yes you did slightly  ;D  By using the URI upload method (sounds like something that should be in the Kama Sutra!  >:D ) GG actually takes a copy of the image from eBay and adds it onto the GG server for posterity, so it's safe and sound.  8)

Anne, would that work for some of the galleries on my own website that show 4 or 5 different shots of the item, and can be supersized?  Like this one.

To keep within my hosting limits I only keep these in the website for about 4 months, then they get deleted.  If the URI method would work, I could put the best ones into my gallery for posterity!

Thank you very much!

Lynne

Hi everyone,

I still have that "wonderful" paperweight on the shelf in the living room least I should forget!

If you would like a photo of the etching/engraving/mark on the reverse of it please let me know and I shall post one ASAP.

Its become like a plague piece, I dare not relist it at the moment or sell it in auction in case something comes back and bites me, so its like a very expensive albatros just watching me.

Have been really busy helping eldest daughter with college work, but it has all paid off now and she has just passed her NVQ level three Diploma in child care and education, and is now very busy job hunting. One down two to go!

Lynne, yes it would work so long as the image is below 200kb and less than 1000 x 1000 pixels in size. If so, just right click the image to see the file path - if you use Firefox the easiest way is to use the right click and Copy Image Location option to copy it to your PC clipboard then paste it into the URI box on GG.

Barbara, yes please. All marks are more than welcome. :)
