Latest Buy - Hyacinth Bulb Vase. ID = Leerdam
(1/1)
Mosquito:
Just found this nice looking bulb vase and am hoping somebody can help identify it.
It appears to be from a two part mould. Stands 14.5 cm (5 3/4 inches tall).
Thanks,
Steven

Just found the same pattern on Pamela's site with a Leerdam attribution ;)
Ivo:
Leerdam, late fifties, designed and approved by the bulb grower's assocoation, and produced in HUGE quantities. You can pick these up in Holland for 1 Euro both in bottle brown and in clear - the green ones are rarer but still abundant. The advantage of this bulb vase is that it is stable, the bulb is well supported and gets sufficient air, so success is as good as guaranteed.

Thanks Ivo :)

This one is known locally as a 'garlic vase' because of it's shape. It DOES suit it quite nicely.
They were specifically designed to be made on the bottle-making machines, and consequently have a very thick rim.
The more interesting design which replaced it has a more triangular profile, with distinct vertical ribs on the inside which encourage the air circulation under the bulb and therefore discourage mold.
Neither is worth much, but the revised version is much better at it's job!
