TECHIE TIPS: Short eBay links
« on: March 03, 2008, 01:59:06 PM »
If you know the number of an eBay item but the link is one of those long scrolling forever types which seems to be 6 feet long, don't despair!  You can use this easy method to post to any eBay item just by inserting the item number onto the end of this link code:

Code: [Select]
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=
so to link to eBay item number 110162282925 your code would read:

Code: [Select]
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110162282925
then just copy that link and paste it into your message on the board.

The same principle works for the other ebay country sites too, e.g. ebay.com, ebay.de, ebay.com.au, etc - just change the .co.uk part of the domain name to the ebay country site you are using.

If you want to link to a listings by a particular seller, then use this format - changing the last section shown here as xxxxx to the ebay seller name:
Code: [Select]
http://shop.ebay.co.uk/merchant/xxxxx - e.g.
http://shop.ebay.co.uk/merchant/book-seek.com links to items for sale by Angela.

Simple isn't it?  8)
