Baccarat ??
« on: March 17, 2008, 07:52:21 PM »
Right now there are two "Baccarat" weights offered on ebay, where I have my doubts - what do others think?

Following my enquiry about the signature, the seller added a pic with the Baccarat stamp - I still have my doubts  ;).

After informing the seller about my doubts, he responded that it might not be Baccarat - but absolutely for sure from a glass studio in Lorraine. Again - I still have my doubts  ;).

In case you agree with me, you may want to point that out to the sellers as well.

Best regards - Wolf

I'd have said Murano without doubt for the second one, but the first one ......  :-\  At first glance I thought  Murano, but on closer looks at the enlarged pictures .....    Not sure.  I think Murano.  Maybe  :-\

The first is Murano as well. Those are Murano canes and the millefiore cap has no stem pulled down.
The star cut on the base appears quite inferior too. Decent faux acid etched signature though   :)

I saw another one of these Murano weights etched with Baccarat logo yesterday - getting common it would appear.
I agree both these are Murano.

Item 170202448511 - Murano - etched faux Baccarat logo
Item 150224291253 - Chinese being passed of as Baccarat

Both are definitely Murano. I have seen lots of Italian weights with canes like the first one. I just haven't identified the maker yet.

The second is Seguso.

Of the auctions Alexander listed, the first is Fratelli Toso. The second is actually quite nice as Chinese weights go. Very nice latticino basket.
I collect Scottish and Italian paperweights and anything else that strikes my fancy.
