Yes, possibly.

Or the damage to the bashed one may show that attempted use as a doorstop was totally futile as it toppled over onto a hard stone floor at the slighest provocation :)  Or maybe it was just kicked around for a hundred years or so. The undamaged one could be greater "proof" as use as a mantle ornament, and it's interesting to note how many of these are found with no damage after such a long time.
