Topic: Ashtray/Bowl - yellow + white

Hallo,my first post as a newbie!
 I have just bought a pair of ashtrays ( see pic if I can upload it) which are the same shape as 2 bubble ones I have seen on ebay as Whitefriars.However, as the colours are yellow and white could they also  be? If not,any other ideas? Many thanks for your help

Hi littlebear, welcome to the show.
These ashtrays used to be on the markets a lot about 20 years ago but I have not seen any in a long time. Colours are red, green, blue or yellow with a white spiral and I was always under the impression these are from Empoli, in the Florence region.  But I'm not quite sure about that. In any case, they have no relation to this topic as the ashtray discussed above is thickwalled and free formed, not thinwalled and blown. So a moderator will come along and split off this topic into a separate one...

I believe these are Chinese, c.1970s-80s. While in China I saw a few similar pieces as well as a set of drinking glasses in green with the same distinctive white spiral decoration. From what I could gather they had been bought new in Shanghai c.1981. Sadly no labels or documentation though.

I have one in a light purple and white colour.  I've always thought it was made by Sasaki Glass, Tokyo, but can't substantiate that.   They made ashtrays amongst other things.

What does the bottom look like? I have had items in this shape with an iridescent finish, enamel painted flowers, and a ground and polished pontil mark (almost Bohemian looking) that had a label that said Arnart, Japan.

I hope LittleBear doesn't mind, but I've taken a shot of the base of mine.  The base is polished flat, but there is a bump on the inside base.

Alrose is an Italian company that has made items like this, but I have seen similar ones with Japanese import labels.
