Turtles I think? But have no idea on what this technique is?
« on: March 11, 2013, 11:58:34 PM »
Picked up a pair of these.  They are about palm sized.  At first I thought they were wall hooks for hanging coats but the sales person thought they were turtles.   That makes a little more sense.  :)

I've never run across anything with bubbles like this, some are open to the base.  The base looks like a glass blob was dropped on a flat surface that maybe had some sand or something on it.   Can anyone tell me how they were made.  My guess was maybe dropping the glass on a wet somethingerother caused the many bubbles to start.   It seems some control was involved to get the shape and not have the bubbles busting through the top.

And once again I've got no idea where they came from or when they were made.  Hoping some of you have run across something like them before.

Thanks, -Buck

Mods or admins, do you think this one would do better in paperweights?  I didn't think of them in the PW category but dunno.

I have! ;D

Sorry, not much help though.
I saw a rather big paperweight (well, sort of rock-shaped lump of glass), exactly same technique, recently at a fleamarket. It looked very nice and "arty", but the base finish was rather crude. No mark or label unfortunately...

They don't have to "be" anything particular - such as a turtle. They could be used as ring trees.
