Bagley "State" pattern. Start date for production please?
« on: June 13, 2008, 10:07:38 AM »
Hi, please can anyone give an exact date for the start of production of Bagley's "State" pattern?
I would be grateful for any info, as I suspect that start of production was later than the 21st of September 1939. Precise date is not given in "Bagley Glass" by Bowey, Parsons and Parsons.
TIA,
Marcus

Marcus — No further information, I'm afraid.   It's not in the set of PG photocopies.   I presume that the quoted 1939 date of first production was worked out from the pattern number, 3098, as the 3000 series of Bagley pattern numbers were sequentially allocated.

You might try Richard van Riel at Pontefract Museum.   I've always found him most helpful.

Hi Bernard,
Thank you, for your response. Under normal circumstances, knowing the year would probably be the adequate, but in the current enquiry, knowing the precise date of production will have an important bearing on our understanding of the period's glass industry.
Thanks again,
Marcus

Hi,
Perhaps another approach is to ask the question:
Please can anyone with the "Blue Book", advise me of Bagley design registrations on or after the 21st of September 1939, until 1942?
TIA,
Marcus

Bernard,
Thank you as always, for your prompt reply. Your response has clarified that Bagley did not openly take advantage of the 1939 Patents, Designs, Copyright and Trademarks (Emergency) Act.
Thanks again and regards,
Marcus
