Glassmaking strips
« on: June 28, 2008, 12:22:31 PM »
The Reflections magazines being published on Scotland's Glass containing interesting photo sequences of glass-making that are as relevant to everyone, not just weight collectors. The fourth Reflections magazine has just been digitised here.

Glass Study members can also read the important and influential report by glassmaker Charles Colné on the 1878 Paris exhibition which also discusses the different approaches to glassmaking in Europe and America at the time that Thomas Webb was considered the world leader and America as the leader in pressed glass. The author was the owner/manager of a glassworks in Washington and the inventor of a glass cutting machine. By the time of this report he was moving more to the political sphere and little information can be found on his glassmaking career. There is a nice account of how to analyse the constituents of a glass. (At the time of writing only half has been completed, completion in a few days.)
