Help with identification of a paperweight
zidori:
A recent find, this paperweight has gold aventurine at the bottom and linked bubbles similar to those in some of the early Kings Lynn Stennett-Willson paperweights which I have seen. The weight is 2 and 1/4 inches high and 2 inches at its widest with no distinguishing marks and a smooth, flat base. All attempts at identification have failed so far, unless Stennett-Willson made some with the addition of aventurine. Does anyone know? I would be extremely grateful for any help.
Regards
Ronnie

P.S. The recent Glass Conference at Perth was absolutely superb - thanks Frank and all those others too numerous to mention who made it possible.

Hi Ronnie,
Is the base matt smooth or shiny smooth? If it's matt you've had it! Everyone here will dismiss it as 'Chinese'
Actually, it does looks a lot like some of the Royal Crest paperweights which are around at the moment, some of which have very nice bubbles, like yours. I don't know if any of them have aventurine in though :?
And if I hear one more person tell me how the Perth Conference was so absolutely fantastic I think I'm really going to cry! :x

Not so fast, folks ... it's not only (many / most) Chinese weights that have a matte ground base :!: We always need to consider all the features to draw a proper conclusion.
Ronnie, can you please confirm that there is aventurine in your weight. From your photo it looks to me like "gold-coloured" chips but not sparkly like aventurine. Perhaps a close-up photo of the chips would be useful.
I don't immediately recognise the weight though.

:x Noooooo! :x
Bad girl, Max! that's just the sort of thing I'm 'agin'
As an example, how about this base? http://tinypic.com/akuc1l.jpg
Any guesses? Well, it's matt smooth, so it must be Chinese, eh?
Certainly the base would indicate that it's something cheap and mass-produced, don't you think?
Wait & see!
