Salviati Fish Sculpture
lenore:
Hi, Just curious but we have the opportunity to look at a Salviati fish sculpture that has a good portion of the label on the base. It is like the one pictured here in Leslie Pina's 2nd edition Fifties Glass Book on page 89. Although I must say I can't remember if the color scheme was the same. Oh well, memory is definitely going. Anyway, in her book she shows a value of $2500-$3500!!! Is that for real or is that terrifically overstated in today's market. Just wondering. Thanks!

You should take ANYTHING in her books with a grain of salt. She uses pictures from auction catalogues and from collectors, along with their attributions and values, without doing any confirmation of her own. Sometimes she prints known errors from second rate auction catalogues as gospel truth. She also prints their estimates as her "value", even if the item in question did not even make the reserve price.
Although they are OK for beginners because of the wide variety of glass they feature, her books are considered a joke amoung serious collectors.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply!
Well, at least this piece does have a Salviati label so I don't need to rely on her attribution.
I have searched and searched the net to find a similar piece to get an idea as to the value but found absolutely nothing! And, I mean nothing so I don't have a clue as to how to place a value on it. Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Lenore

Have spent countless hours scouring the net for any info on this Salviati fish which per Pena is by Loredano Rosin. Does that bit of info (Rosin) help with any more history on this piece? Thinking we may just pass on it. Oh well. Thanks again,
Lenore
