Kudos to Roy Jones (Mhgcgolfclub)
« on: October 18, 2008, 01:30:16 PM »
I just wanted to let everyone know how great this group is and what one of it's members did for me!  I recently showed a small cup I got (in vaseline glass) that is the GEORGE PEABODY memorial plate that was made by Henry Greener & Co., and was registered on Dec. 7, 1869, a month after philanthropist Geo. Peabody passed away.  I commented I was looking for a saucer for the cup.  Ideally, I am hoping to someday find the saucer in vaseline/uranium glass, but Roy found me one in clear glass and sent it to me as a gift!  He even paid the postage!

It is people like Roy that make this group something special!  Roy lives in England and came across this little plate (5 inches in diameter) in his travels.  He knew I was looking for one and got it for me!

Roy is MHGCGOLFCLUB on ebay and always has nice glass (an unsolicited endorsement of a great ebay seller and Glass Messages member!)

Regards,
Dave Peterson

There also exists a larger plate 9.25" in diameter bearing the same design around the rim and a heart/crown motif in the centre.

It's illustrated in 'Victorian Glass' by Betty O' Looney (Victorian & Albert Museum, 1972).

Thank you all for your very kind comments, its always a pleasure to be able to help people out when possible , there are many other people out there who are very kind and helpful especially on this board.
2 years ago today my son who was 11 years old was dangerously ill in hospital with a MRSA infection inside his hip and one of my ebay buyers from the USA Erik who I have made good friends with sent my son 2 care packages of sweets and gum free of charge.

Thanks again Roy
