Topic: Help IdentifyHeavy Yellow/Orange Stem Glasses &Sherbert

Glass is Yellow/Orange Color Sherbert Cups Measure: 3.5"Tx 3.75" Wide
Foot is flower like seperated into six petals Each cup weighs 1LB 3 OZ
Stem Glasses Measure: 5"T x 2.5"Wide Same foot On Bottom
Not uniform in shape, each is unique. Looks like pieces were made in two different operations.  Top part first, glass here is thinner. Then The Bottom was added on later.  The Pattern on the glass is similar to King's Crown, however there is no lace. There is a seam at the bottom part of the glass only, none on top.  Rough Texture or bumpy texture to the feel of the glass. Color is similar to orange marmalade.

Hi Vintagerose. This is "Maderia" made by Tiffin. Can't seem to come up with a date, but it was designed to compliment some Franciscan pottery dinner ware. Hope this helps, Terry

I have a large (6.5 in, 16.5 cm) one of these - known as the the ugly glass - but in olive green.  It contains a fair amount of uranium as it lights up like a bright green beacon under a UV light. I've also had an amber one without uranium. Thanks for the ID Terry

Thank you Glass Wizard, the info is most helpful.  If you do come across a circa I would like to know it.  Also if you have any ideas of where I can look for more info on these pieces I would appreciate it.

Everything you wanted to know about Maderia but were afraid to ask  :wink:  is covered in Tiffin Glass - Figurals, Paperweights, Pressed Ware 1940-1980 by Hemminger, Goshe, and Pina.

Maderia #120 line was introduced in January 1971 in 5 colors - Blue, Citron, Olive, Smoke, and Ice (Crystal).  Plum, Cornsilk (yellow) and Rancho Ruby were added in 1972.

More colors were added in later years and production continued until 1980. As Terry said, they were marketed as go-withs to Franciscan China by Interpace Corporation starting in 1974.

I believe your glasses are Cornsilk.
