Id needed please - Borsk sklo?
« on: November 24, 2008, 02:00:04 PM »
I bought this vase off ebay where it was described as Borsk sklo.  Is this correct please?  What and where is Borsk Sklo?  Google seems to give very few results in English!

Can't tell you if it is or isn't Borské Sklo (note the é on the end), but I can tell you where the company is:

Borské sklo s.r.o.
Myslbekova 700
Nový Bor - Arnultovice
473 01
Czech Republic

(Can't find their own website but they are mentioned in several manufacturers' listings)

Note: Borské Sklo isn't a part of the Sklo Union group despite being a Czech glassmaker!  8)

It's very possible that it is Borské Sklo; the company was the biggest Czech maker of decorated and gilded glass ware. Now Crystalex http://www.crystalex.cz/index.php?idstr=13

Thanks Anne and Christine :)

The e on the end makes a difference when searching, at least I have a few results now, but I still haven't found anything that looks like this.  I will have to invest in the new Sklo Union book and see if it has slipped in :)

Borské Sklo was not part of Sklo Union, so there is nothing in the words part - haven't got to the CD yet but it seems unlikely. Hi Sklo Lo Sklo by Mark Hill shows some Borské Sklo items, and your vase looks typical of their output. But as Mark says "hundreds of thousands of products in hundreds of designs"

And many many examples of this, available here in Prague, in junkshops and fleamarkets, and very cheap.
( I am researching, honest, just in more ways than one)  ;D ;D

Marcus

Sounds like a glass collectors dream.   Maybe we ought to organise an annual Glass Message Board holiday to Prague :)
