Topic: Dimpled Glass Decanter - what is it???

I have bought this decanter recently as it looked quite nicely made with a polished pontil mark and also having a numbered body and matching numbered stopper.   The glass has a dimpled effect but doesn't actually look very old.  There isn't alot of wear on the base or on the stopper.   Do makers still number the body and stopper?  There is no makers name at all on it.  Any advice would be appreciated.

It looks like the stopper is slightly cloudy inside - true?  This indicates a deterioration of the glass called crizzling.  Crizzling doesn't happen overnight, so your decanter has some age to it.  I'd be surprised if it's later than 1950.  Where are you located?  Can you put it in your profile if you're planning on continuing to post?  It helps sometimes with IDs.

  Hi Kristi, thanks for the information.   I have never heard of crizzling before but I have seen it on some of my other glass.   This is such a good site for learning new information.   I should hopefully start collecting some decent glass eventually!  I have posted a couple of new ones, hopefully someone will recognise them.   Best wishes, Kerry.
