Big Bowl help please, I have no idea what it is!
« on: February 26, 2009, 06:54:37 PM »
Hi Everyone

Bought this the other day to display ties in in my shop. Not sure if it's modern or old but when I got it back to the shop it seems quite like the glass on my rectangular Sklo Union ashtray, though I fear this may be wishful thinking on my part!

The bowl measures 26cms across and is 16cms high.

Does anyone recognise it as something or nothing?

Yes, Sklo Union, Libochovice I think. You'll find it in Marcus Newhall's Sklo Union book catalogue CD - it's probably one of those pieces which can be the base of a compote or the other way up makes a bowl on its own.

It's a bit big to be a base Anne at 26 cm!!  ;D And with that foot it looks unlikely to have been able to fit on top of a smaller one

Thanks Anne, I haven't got that book yet, saving up for it!

Like Lustrousstone says it is a bit big to go on top of something, I think it would crush anything underneath it's that heavy!

A fabulous book - worth every penny.  Anne's right - your bowl is on the CD that comes with the book.

Super, thanks everyone, another reason to get the book then.

Sorry Anne,  my tape-measure only has cms on it which irritates me every time I use it.
