Globe vase... Mdina, MDG, or something else?
« on: November 22, 2016, 08:02:34 PM »
Picked up this wee globe shaped vase today - greeny-blue outside with some yellow bits showing through, yellowish inside, has 3 large air bubbles in it and various smaller ones. Smooth polished flat base. Not signed. No label.  I'm pretty sure it's Maltese but who... can anyone confirm please?

Dimensions: 3¾" tall, 4" diameter at widest point.
Cheers! Anne, da tekniqual wizzerd

And me, Miss! :)
I think these little ones are quite early, you find plain yellow bubbly ones too.
They're quite finely blown.
If it's a later little globe, it's likely to be thicker and heavier and less bubbly too.

Thanks both, I suspected Mdina but wasn't sure. It's not what I'd call finely blown but it's not super-heavy either... compared to the Gozo vase it's definitely lighter!

Given the size of the rim (relatively small) I would say this is earlier rather than later, 1972, give or take a couple of years.

Photos of mine here - very similar, along with an early paper label: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,27152.msg162035.html#msg162035

Finely-blown, for Mdina. Sorry, I wasn't implying lampwork fine-ness, but they are finer than the inside-out vases.
(I've just checked two little yellows and a blue against 5 inside-outs)

I agree with John, pre '72. The pure yellow wasn't something that got continued.
