Lovely wrythern blown uranium decanter
« on: April 27, 2009, 08:56:41 PM »
This lovely wrythern blown uranium glass decanter is nicely made with a neat little polished pontil mark. It is undamaged apart from very minor use marks, but it is quite water stained. The stopper is perfect. I have no idea of who, when or where: does anyone? Is it worth having it restored, bearing in mind we only paid £3 for it? Did anyone ever find and use anyone to do such restoration?

I had a badly water-stained Webbs bowl restored at the Ruskin Centre (Redhouse Glass Crafts)

http://www.ruskin-mill.org.uk/ruskinglasscentre

They always have a lot of work on, so don't expect the job to be done in a hurry - but if what your decanter needs is a bit of TLC, they are the people to give it.

That's about as close as I got too, from a little exhibition book I got at one of Andy's talks.  John means a mould blown decanter called 'Astrid' from 1918 in 2 sizes designed by Simon Gate.  38.5cm & 32cm.   Uranium glass though....hmm....doesn't say Orrefors/Sandvik to me?

No I've seen that too. I think this might be earlier, perhaps Webb. I think I need to email Andy, is he amenable to such things?
