Topic: Polish glass.

Can anybody recomend books on glass from Poland please, perhaps its my lack of knowledge but it seems a bit overlooked...Many thanks Steve

I'd love to know if there are any books too Steve, but I've not found any as yet though. Are you interested in Polish crystal (of which they seem to produce oodles if my Polish stepmother's collection is anything to go by! ) or their non-crystal production?  My interest is in Polish pressed glass.

I started looking at their crystal but now looking at further back glass including pressed, my problem at the moment is i am trying to learn far too much at once.  I think i am suffering from information overload!. Perhaps i should narrow my interests down a bit.

I know that feeling Steve!   But seriously, the best way to get a feel for glass is to look at as many different types as you can. Handle it, read about it, even if you don't retain all the information you get a better idea of what's what. Then decide what you want to narrow your interest down to if you want to - I did that and am now mainly focusing on glass trinket sets from anywhere - but all the other stuff I've handled and looked at has helped enormously, along with all the great info and advice from those here on the board who know (and will always know) so much more than I do.

I think that Polish pressed glass is going to be a very interesting area to look at if we can only find the information about it.

Glen thank you for the links - they've made me want to know more about both factories now.  I just love that Egyptian Lotus bowl!

I have a problem reading some of the text on the Hortensia main page though as the long divider-type pattern images are overlaying the text - it's probably a browser thing as I'm using Firefox under Linux but thought I'd just mention it so you know. I can do you a screenshot of how it looks for me if that helps?  The other pages I looked at don't have this problem.

Thanks for the links Glen and thanks folks for comments, plenty of web info on modern factorys but a bit thin on the ground before that.Will keep looking, perhaps a good area for further research. :thup:

It was fine in my browser (Explorer) so I assume it must be Firefox /Linux. I have removed the images that were overlaying the text for you, Anne. Hopefully you can read it OK now. For interest, those images were stylised tulip motifs that were used by Hortensja in their pressed glass designs. Very "Art Deco" - gorgeous designs.

It was in my Windows/Firefox as well Glen, just the Linux/Firefox combo was having the problem. Thank you for removing the images, I can read it all now. :kissy: 

I don't have any of these items in any sort of glass - plain or Carnival - which is such a shame as they are lovely.
