« on: June 03, 2009, 01:54:46 PM »
Hi there
ive had this jug around 5 years and never been able to I.D the signiature to the base. My partner reckons it says lythell as thats his surname :P
Iraelly have no idea at all  its a dirty green in colour, with lots of bubbles inside all differnt shapes and sizes, 16.5cms tall, 12cms in diameter, the base has plenty of wear and a ground & polished out pontil
any ideas???
all the best

Is the signature shown upside down?

The bubbles remind me a bit of Eric Hoglund work for Boda, a very long shot but if so the signature might be a series of numbers and an H.

Is it a jug or a tankard (no spout)?

John.

to be honest im not sure which way it goes up, seemed to make more sense this way though, i will add it again the other way up
It doesnt have a spout but is very large for a tankard it holds 2 1/2 pints (can you imagine having a couple of beers in that!!  ;D), thats why i put jug too as i thought maybe too big to be defined soley as a tankard??
To be honest i just cant make anything out either way
many thanks for the input
michelle

Two and a half pints (over 1 litre) is large for a tankard but then again, much of North European culture revolves around getting drunk. After all, it is cold most of the year, there is not much sunshine and everyone is a little bit depressed half the time, so why not get peed?

Maybe the person who signed it had just drunk from it....

I can not make much (any) sense of the signature.

Lovely though, I am dirty green with tankard envy.

John.

John, that's the board's word filter kicking in - prevents words which are on the not to be used list from appearing in posts and substitutes an alternate instead... so for p*** it substitutes go.... hope that explains things. :)

Ive checked through a few of Eric Hoglund signiatures and he does seem to slant his signiature to the right which would go with it being the second way up if that makes sense, the H does look like his H aswell, so John i would say you where probably right with your guess many thanks for that
