Help with Vallerysthal Vase _ Information Source Wanted
« on: June 29, 2009, 02:57:03 PM »
Hello all,

I just got home from a 10 day trip to Montana to working an estate auction of a collector. I was lucky enough to get paid to help, while being afforded the opportunity to be present at one of the greatest estate auctions I have ever attended. It was in farm country in a town that my GPS did not even recognize as being there.....   Among the many things I purchased was a pair (same shape, similar decor but slightly different) of Vallerysthal enameled cameo glass vases. They are ca. 1900. I was able, prior to my purchase to determine that these vases are quite rare, but that is about it. I found a couple of auction records on line, and there is mention of their both their high quality and scarcity in a reference book I have on French Cameo glass, but that is about it. I am looking to see if anyone can direct me towards a reference book, or any other source which would provide me with more information about the company and their artists. I am including some images of one of the two vases. They are quite striking, and the enamel used on them glows in sunlight quite unlike any other enameling I have seen. The base glass is clear with an outer layer of burgundy color that is cut back and then enameled. The vase pictured is 12 inches tall and 5 inches in diameter at the shoulder. The style of design on these is quite unique and not really similar to anything I have seen before.

TIA

Craig
I have been told that glass is my mistress......
