Murano Chandelier. Is This a Murano?
« on: July 25, 2009, 10:20:27 PM »
I saw an article in Metropolitan home which identified a lamp as Murano.
It looks just like mine, and I was wondering if mine is also a Murano.
The steel frame says "made in Italy" and the round glass pieces have a bubble in the middle.
Is my lamp a Murano?
Thanks!

Murano is an island containing many glassmakers, rather than being the name of a single glassmaker, so there's no such thing, really, as owning 'a Murano'.

I seem to recall that these lamps were produced by Vetreria Vistosi, and were designed by Gino Vistosi in the 1960s - someone with better knowledge of Italian glass may be able to confirm/deny or add further details.

Thanks for the information.  I obviously am not an expert on glass.
The lamp is so unique, and after seeing a replica of it in Metropolitan Home, I became quite curious as to it's origin.
I will look into Vetreria Vistosi.
If anyone else out there has any more information about this chandelier, please post.

Thanks for the info NKP and Pinkspoons.
From all of the photos that I've now seen of the Vistosi disc lamp, I believe mine is a copy.
My chandelier has little screws to hold on the discs.  Vistosi's chandeliers do not have those screws.
I wonder who did the knock-off?
Thanks for your help!
