Daum vase................. a beauty.
« on: July 28, 2009, 05:59:54 PM »
Hi,
Today in Bath I wondered into Aldridges auction house just as they were closing after a morning sale of antiques.
I was lucky enough to talk to the buyer of this Daum vase and he let me take a couple of pics. He is a member of the Glass Association but had not heard of this forum. He is going to visit here and if anyone can help date this piece and give the colour and designer I know he would be pleased.
The condition of the vase is superb and must have been very expensive when new. The price today was 2 X Whitefriars Meadow Green bricklayers.
Regards, Patrick.

Beautiful piece of glass!!  IMHO I would date the piece, based on the decor and form to be ca. 1930's. The color is also a later color.... I do not know what the name of it is. Maybe someone else will.....

As far as price, I am in the US. Please tell me that "2 X Whitefriars Meadow Green bricklayers" is expensive......  otherwise I will be .

Hi

Well the signature is usually consider to have been used 1925-37

The closest piece to it colourwise in the Nancy Museum is dated 1930 -I don't think the colours actually had names, and the designer will be an anonymous house designer. I've been through about half a dozen Daum books but can't 'spot' the actual pattern - not that that's a worry - just would have been nice to find it!

So I'm with Craig - c1930

very nice

cheers

Mike

Hi Craig,
The hammer price was 500.00  pounds..................
Thanks to you and Mike for the information given, it certainly is a piece of glass that I would love to own.

Ah well, back to my 'Whitefriars'

Regards, Patrick :)
