millefiori paperweight any ideas on maker?
« on: July 30, 2009, 05:02:48 PM »
Hi there
I bought this paperweight off of ebay about 18 months back and its been sat in the cabinet not knowing who its by, I only paid around £8 inc postage (very badly listed advert if i remeber correctly) so even if its nothing good its no great loose.
I think the oter is made from all the odds and ends of the millefiori canes (chips??). I cant see any lettering or numbers in any of the canes, but they seem to be nice quality canes not the real cheap nasty ones.
The base has a slight welled effect and the glass has been gathered and cut off leaving the end unpolished although not sharp just rough which actually look really nice
when you hold it upto the light i believe its just clear glass inside (solid)
A really lovely weight and very tactile domed (almost coned) shape, 6.5cms tall, 8.25cms in diameter at its widest and weighs almost 700g
any ideas on maker??
many thanks
michelle

Reminds me of the Paul Ysart scrambled but without the swirls.

Just a thought!!

The canes are Murano - if it was made there is a different question, canes have been exported all over.
