Hi there
i picked this up at a carboot sale last year, I had always thought it to be Murano, and i was told by a friend it was a very nice quality piece of triple cased Murano, can anybody give me any info on this
The internal layer is a bright red high gloss shine, cased on white glass which is cased in a layer of thin brown glass which is matt and slightly more rough to the touch the brown layer at the top of the bowl has gaps in (looks like melted plastic almost, very unusual effect) so you can see through to the white glass.
The front has been pushed down and the back pulled up into a good twist.
The base is ground down to the white glass with a slight concave, although not rough it hasnt been polished down to a shine.
A little age wear although not heavy, no signiatures or markings that ive been able to find.
Gorgeous tactile piece would love to know more.
14.75cms tall, 14cms by 15cms wide weighs 1.1kg
many thanks
michelle

Sorry pulling back an oldie, Ive had another glassy friend refer to this as a barbini piece, looking in Pina's book Italian glass Century 20 (i know this is notoriuos for being incorrect) on page 153 she has one with very similar qualities "exterior of opaque white calcite with violet-fumed" but with a purple interior, also has the brown exterior but nowhere near has thick as mine. The one in the book is signed Barbini.
could one of the mods pop Murano Barbini into the title and hopefully it will pick up the attention of some of the Murano people
many thanks
michelle

Michelle, I don't know the bowl, but I like it. I wanted to say that Pina's Italian Glass Century 20 is okay. Her terrible book is Fifties Glass.
