possible Fenton/USA manufacture??
« on: August 10, 2009, 07:20:42 PM »
As you can see, quite an attractive piece of (lidded) pressed glass, which I venture to suggest is of US manufacture.  No marks unfortunately, and I don't recognise the floral decoration, which is all in relief.  12cms. tall, and about 13cms. wide, with four seam lines.   Maybe something like late 60's early 70's.  Wud welcome ideas of attribution please (and possible use) from the other side of the pond.  Many thanks.    Paul S.

I know!! Davidson! Late 19th C. A lidded butter. In carnival, it's by Sowerby (who borrowed the pattern according to Notley) and known as ribbons and leaves. It also doesn't have a lid. Info A Century of Carnival, Thistlewood and Thistlewood

you clever girl Christine  -  my sincere thanks as always.    the reason I went for the States option was.........partly because the woman at the boot sale said she felt it was fairly modern and American (cost me one pound fifty) - and partly because back in March when I showed the opaque white Top Hat, Anita correctly gave me a Fenton attribution.  Of course, I'm happier with a late C19 Davidson provenance, but only because my preferred area is C19 pressed.  And if Anita reads this, I still do have and cherish the Top Hat.  thanks again, and I will try to get it right next time I have some white opaque.      Paul S.
