Topic: Colored Water Glasses - I think American ID Help Please

Another set of glasses out of the garage boxes. These have a nicely ground bottom ring and are quite heavy and thick. Very nicely done. Age wise I am not real sure 40-'s to 50's would be my guess. One of them is vaseline glass and glows quite brightly....  They measure 4 inches tall and 3.5 inches wide at the waist.  Any help appreciated....

Thank you so much for the link.  All of these came from the same estate, and were hidden deep in a cabinet in a basement family room.  Based on the stuff that was in front of them, and the amount of dirt that was on them at the time, I am pretty sure that these were a set purchased by the owners together, and not accumulated over time. They were the only ones in the very large house. The people having the sale had not even found or seen them they were so buried. They are all identical with absolutely no physical differences, and the bottom ring is ground and polished in exactly the same way...  I would have never thought that the pattern was produced by so many different companies though.

I did take quick look around the internet and they seem to have been made in slightly varying sizes by different companies. Maybe my further research of the pattern and height together will reveal a manufacturer, or at least narrow the field.....

Hello again,  One additional quick note. I did not mention earlier that someone somewhere along the line had suggested Cambridge to me...  I think it was their take based on how the underside of the glasses are finished.  In additional research and reading dimensions  given of a variety of these glasses, the only identified company I can find that is described as being exactly 4 inches tall is Cambridge.... I do find some unidentified glass described as 4 inches tall, and I find other identified brands that are not 4".

I will update the information if I can find any others that are the same height.

One last update here.... 

I am basing my research on the belief that these were purchased originally as a set and not collected as single examples of each color. I am basing this on the fact that they are all identical in every way other than color, and also the conditions under which they were found.

A search of the internet indicated that the following companies produced a tumbler line in the Georgian pattern. I then went to replacements.com and looked up all of these companies. They were all represented there, and all had the Georgian pattern.

In looking at each line in detail some of the companies could be disqualified as the manufacturer based on color selection they offered. Additionally, many could be discounted due to the height measurement of their 9 oz tumbler.  The only company in the following list that had the color assortment and also the correct glass height was Cambridge. Of the manufacturers with a large enough quantity if colors to make 9 different glasses in a set. As a side not, there may have actually been 10 or 12 in the set originally, as 9 seems an odd marketing number. Cambridge is also the only company that made a Yellow Georgian 9oz tumbler.

I will continue to look for brands and update, but it is looking as though this group was likely manufactured by Cambridge.

Cambridge -        Colors (17) - Size correct 4"
Anchor Hocking - Incorrect colors (11) Incorrect size 4.25" & 3.875"
Fenton -            Incorrect colors (13) and Incorrect size  4.125"
Viking -              Incorrect colors (16) and Incorrect size 4.125"
Hazel-Atlas -       Not enough colors (4) - Size is correct
Duncan & Miller -  Not enough colors (5) - Size is correct

I am also basing this on having the experience that Replacements.com generally shows complete line color selections for companies if they show the design, even if not available in stock or pictured.

Well, Now that you have read all of this stuff, forget it...   :spls:

A very close examination of the bases on these and a re-measuring of every glass leaves me feeling like I have wasted a bunch of time tonight!!   :cry:  I guess it is not totally wasted, as I now know more about 9 oz Georgian tumblers than I thought was out there to know!! 

There are slight differences in the finish on some of the ground bases... small, but a very close re-examination of all 9 reveals that they are there...  and a couple of these are a fraction taller than others...  someone may have collected the different colors very early on.... and then put them away when they were bored with the project.......

Oh well, like the link said, they can be difficult to identify  .....  at least I know the yellow one is Cambridge for sure.    :thup:
