You can always tell it's Sunday. This pair were described to me as onion glass - c. 1910 - not that at 7 this morning I wud have known the difference between that and a No. 9 bus - but they are delicately attractive - a beautiful subtle pink iridescence (with swags), and I assumed possibly early carnival. My few dictionaries gave nothing on Onion Glass, so punched the search on GMB, and tried to digest Glen Thistlewood's excellent article back in 2005 re Carnival versus Art glass. My conclusion is that these two are not Onion - there is absolutely no stetching or crazing of the iridescence. Also wud imagine hand blown into a mould (in view the bulbous base), and not just mould pressed, so end result - I think, is "Iridised Art Glass". 25 cms. tall. Does this pattern have a name, and is the date correct?? - in fact are any of my conclusions correct! but they are very attractive. The base on one shows simply the mould impression - and on the other (presumably due to un-eveness) some grinding down. thanks for looking. Paul S.
