« on: August 19, 2009, 04:50:42 AM »
Greetings, just purchased this lovely vase with the most impressive engraving- very deco type but would like to know who?? Was sold as 1930's 12.6cm h and very thick walled, a hefty 1.6kg, no Sig or markings just age wear to the flat base. Many thanks Carol

The vase certainly looks Scandinavian, Stromberg perhaps.
Dont recognise the strange bird, Carol, its not a NZ species is it?
Maybe etching was added down under?

When I looked at the first pic of the engraving, my guts said Caithness, the images of the whole piece also show a distinctly Caitrhness shape.

Are there any initials on the base? This might help track doen the engraver.

Greetings Andy and Chopin-Liszt, not a New Zealand species- we have some weird avians down here but nothing like the engraved bird. No marks or initials at all- it does have a distinct edge to the work so that might indicate acid or sand blasted if that helps. regards Carol

The tail of the bird reminds me of Wrens. Don't expect and exact species though as there are about 100 of them LOL. Can't help with the id on the glass though!
