Amber bowl Tcheco-slovaquie - ID please. Marcus?
« on: August 21, 2009, 01:25:00 AM »
Could someone help me identify the likely date and maker of this bowl I just bought from our NZ auction Trademe? It has a molded mark on the inside Tcheco-slovaquie
Many thanks
Angela

You don't say what size it is Angela, but this pattern is found in the Libochovice catalogue on Marcus' Sklo Union book CD, so date would be designed pre-1958. If yours is the 230mm diameter one then it'd be pattern number 1442.

Many thanks, Anne. I did look in that catalogue but had trouble finding my way around. Thanks for the tip.
I did read in Marcus's book that the signature "Tcheco-slovaquie" was banned by the Nazis, so I think that makes it pre 1939. I also know it was made for the French market (because of the spelling) and it must have been after 1921 when that country came into being with that name. However, that name may have been re-introduced after the war, but Marcus's book says he does not know when, if it was.
The diameter is 22cm.
Is it possible to identify the pre-war designer? It is a really well-made piece.
Many thanks for your help.

The pattern's not shown in the 1920s catalogue from Libochovice, Angela, so that narrows it a bit more. (catalogue c.1925-28 is on Pamela's site here: http://www.glas-musterbuch.de/Libochovice-1925-1928.118.0.html).
