I have heard back from Dave & Rene Shetlar and they do not recognize it as a piece of American production.  The search goes on.....

does the fact that this piece isn´t shown in the Myra catalogues
rule out WMF generally? there must have been some more ranges
than ´Myra´and ´Ikora´.

The book WMF Ikora & Myra Gläser does a pretty good job of including full catalogues for lesser series such as Medusa, Perlmutter, Perlora, etc...

I've looked over the catalogues properly, and this shape does not pop up in any of them. Also, there appears to be nothing quite so transparent in any of the decorative treatments used in the Myra / Perlmutter series so it being a piece that falls between the catalogues seems unlikely.

I have no idea if the OP is still around I found this search when looking for information on WMF glass.. my first thought when I saw this was Poschinger. their finish was very like this and they definitely had polished pontil marks.

Hi,

Yes we are still around just don't frequent the site much nowadays..... :-\ (due to life in general)
Thankyou for your post, I will google Poschinger. The piece in question hasn't seen the light of day since... relegated to the unidentified box, 1 of many, I am afraid.

Regards Sharron

Not sure how Myra keeps popping up in this discussion, but it is not. If you hold it to the light, Myra is dark honey amber, result of the silver nitrate in the glass. Try the same with a piece of stretch glass (as this is) you'll find it is light pink or light blue.  Same trick with Glasgralhütte will yield a lead-like grey colour, perhaps because they used lead. Poschinger is usually colourless if I remember well.

Many companies did stretch glass with polished pontils.....  The color does not strike me as Poschinger at all......
