Name of glass studio
« on: September 14, 2009, 03:47:03 PM »
Contemporary Murano made vase.  I can't make out the studio name.  I even checked Ivo's list and still came up empty.  Does anyone recognize the name?  Thanks for looking.

Hi:

I see (kind of) Glass Studio Murano. I googled it and got http://feng777.en.ec21.com/Handmade_Murano_Design_Glass_Decorative--1982542_3331411.html which look Chihuly style pieces. I didn't see any pieces like yours on there, but...  Is Glass Studio a possible reading? It's a site worth having a look at if you want to get an idea of what's out there being sold as Murano.

I wonder if you could somehow switch the picture to black and white and play around with the intensity, etc. to bring the signature up. I will try this and see what happens.

Sorry, I have no idea how to get the picture to be here in the message, but there's the link.  :-[

If I ignored the signature, I'd look at the possibility of it being Campanella. The gold finish, the general colour, and the shape suggest Campanella to me. But I can't see any recognizably Campanella murrines. BTW, why do you think contemporary? (I'm not disagreeing.)

Your vase reminds me of some of the vases made by Amedeo Rossetto. I ran across some of the things he made for Laguna Glass today. http://www.lagunamurano.it/index.php/cPath/2?osCsid=m3i4iv34hej84bhaq5g0iivq30 is a link.

It looks as a generic signature: "glass studio Murano". Often the clients ask for a signature, also in pieces that the producer doesn't sign. So the seller signs himself the piece with a "fantasy" signature. This was pretty common... expecially in the turistic factory (where they produce nothing, but where they declare themself as a factory-studio  :P )

Anyway from the details I can say at least 6 names producing very similar items, but I could add other 10 due to it was a very popular technique and style.

Campanella
DonĂ
Fornasotta
DiPi
Gambaro
Pagnin

Sincerely

Thanks for the comments everyone; and the explanation, Alex.  It looked Glass Studio Murano to me, but that didn't make sense.  Now it does.
