Amber smokers set.
« on: August 19, 2010, 10:59:26 PM »
Hello, I have this set, which I think is made by Hyglo in USA. The only information I have found about the company is that it operated between 1931-1949. Has anyone any idea just who made the glass for the sets.
Its very similar to Murano glass with gold inclusions, just not sure if these where made by an American glass company. I would be very interested if anyone has any information.

:hi:  Silly question, but the mark of Hyglo -- where is that located?

Is is seen on the lighter mechanics, or somewhere on the glass?  As I was just thinking (out loud) that *IF* it was marked on the lighter insert -- maybe only that was made in the USA.....as to me, the glass sorts of looks Murano to me (IMHO).  So just curious as to where the mark you state you see -- where is it located on the item -- and why do you think it is Hyglo?  What did you find?

I did find these, and the caps on the top look similar to yours

antiquerose, yes thats all that I could find, there has been a couple of the same lighters on Ebay, and they have the same tops, both said that they came from the  lighter company Hyglo, also could be Hy-glo. One auction stated the company run from 1931-1949 then closed due to a fire.
Mine only has USA on the metal part, that I could see. I also thought that the glass looked Murano.

Hy-Glo does seem to be the lighter mechanism, so I would say Murano was a good bet for the glass
Here's a silver one with a Hy-Glo mechanism http://www.tias.com/cgi-bin/showcase-item.cgi?itemKey=3923253160&store=/stores/ahac

 Thanks,  Lustrousstone & antiquerose. That was fast!
To me it looked Murano, but as you know without that label, its going to be hard to find the glass workshop. At least I have a ballpark date that it was made.

Went and measured mine, and its the same size as Svazzo's, but think his looks to have more gold in it.
