Vaseline or just plain green?
« on: December 04, 2009, 05:44:02 PM »
Always thought this(frilly topped vase) was vaseline glass without any opalescence, does it have to have opalescence to qualify as such, the colour between these pieces is very close but only the one is uv reactive, excuse pic' cameras fault not mine,Keith.

The term vaseline glass means different things to different people, but the frilly topped one doesn't qualify on any count as it is neither uranium nor opalescent.

Vaseline glass is either yellow uranium glass or has some cloudy white opalescence or both.

As I presumed, prior to joining the GMB I'd read and heard the term used and applied to various types of glass sometimes right most often wrong, thanks again,Keith.

To find out more about vaseline/yellow uranium glass, you might check out this site.

The narrative at the top of the home page might help you a little bit on definitions.
(p.s.  I am the webmaster for that site)
