Victorian celery vase - Manchester cut glass?
« on: December 12, 2009, 03:04:42 PM »
Hi there,

I recently picked up this celery vase on eBay. It was advertised in the 1910-1939 section with no further details but I am feeling pretty confident that it is Molineaux & Webb and therefore a rare piece of non-pressed Manchester glass. It matches design number 6353 in the Molineaux & Webb pattern book which would date it to the mid 1860s.

I wondered if anyone on the board would concur or not with this, or at least give a steer as to whether they agree with the dating. For comparison I have photographed it next to a Pericval & Vickers pressed piece from 1868. Both are 9 inches tall. The Molineaux & Webb piece is actually heavier and about 5mm thick at the top. I have noticed from the pattern book that the bulging top to the celery vases seems to come into style in the 1860s...

Neil
