Another little snippet of info on Helen: http://www.theglasgowstory.com/image.php?inum=TGSE01058

A differently painted version of the same cup and saucer fig.16 of the abovementioned book, also by Helen Walton.

There is also a picture of George, Dora, Hannah and Helen, fig.13, and, Helen at work, fig 14.

Note: Be careful since Edward Walton married a Helen in 1890 (formerly, Law, nee Henderson - she was previously married for only a few months some years before).

Thanks Nigel & Della.

I have not yet seen the book by Karen Moon, but it seems like a "must read".

Della, the link you gave is one that I had seen in my searches and I believe that it shows that there was variation in the type and quality of decoration. The information that Brian Blench gave me today confirmed a point that the sisters worked on higher quality wares as well as "gift items" and they used blanks from many sources, including the likes of Limoge for the china wares.

There is a web site called "Scotland's People" where you can do searches, and for a minimal fee, get certificates. Might I suggest a quick search for the birth record of Hannah Walton and her sister (forgotten the name) to see if either of them had a middle name noted at the time of birth? Alternatively, you could look at census records to see if there is a middle name registered for either one of them. The family should be relatively easy to find, given that you have parents' names and locations.

A good suggestion, but remember that it was (and is) not uncommon in Scotland for the middle given name to be the mother's maiden name.

Indeed (my grandfather had his mother's maiden name as a middle name), but it would still be written up in birth records.

Thanks for the additional info, Carolyn and Malwodyn.

I was aware of the Scotland's People searches and now that I have, at last, succesfully registered and reset my security password for online credit card payments, I have made some progress.

The info Nigel gave above (from the book) about Hannah being born in 1863 is probably a year out. Seems it was 1862. However all of my search info so far needs to be crosschecked.

Interestingly, the Scottish records site shows a "Hannah Nore Walton" in summary info (i.e. not the actual copy of the paper record) for the right period. Having located the correct family in 1871 census records (Father, Mother and 10 children), it confirms a Hannah with a middle name that could be "Nore". But it's hard to be sure of the handwriting on the copy document. However, I wonder whether that may really be "More" rather than "Nore"? Neither of those names are familiar to me - can anyone here confirm?

Try to find her sister, (census might help) and see what her middle name was. What was the mum's maiden name? You're doing great!
