Chance Spiderweb Blue smooth bands sugar Bowl
« on: December 19, 2009, 05:42:47 PM »
Here is a Spiderweb sugar bowl which the blue bands on it are not textured but smoothed. Also location is different and there are two shades of blue bands instead of one uniform colour. Any comments?

These are not unheard of, but are very scarce versions of Spiderweb. I have seen versions in blue (I own a celery vase), yellow and green. I assume there is also a deep pink variant as well. At some stage you may also come across Spiderweb with unusual decorations, like coloured stars. There is even an orange crinkle-banded model (Anne on this board has it).  These are just one of the new finds, which will be explored in Chance Additions.

These smooth coloured banded versions might also be linked to the standard decorations seen on Cato, so coming right at the end of Chance's pressed glass production.

As with your Waverley plates, another excellent find!

Its much easy to find yellow and green spiderweb. In fact at the moment the antique shop in high st Halesowen got a set of green spiderweb cups and plates.  I only manage recently to find two blue band spiderweb items as shown.
If l come across any interesting Chance glass that i don't  want l will let you know but they might not there when  you turn up.
From your other threads your house must be full of glasses by now?

Ming, that would be very kind. I'll mail you privately.

I would also like to point out that my comments refer to the plain (un-crinkled) model only, apart from the one mention of the orange crinkle-banded one. The Crinkle versions are already discussed in my book, of course.

The orange crinkled one also has those floral transfers like Ming's Waverley plates - talk about a belt and braces approach! ;D
