Favor Needed on Czech Compact
« on: December 30, 2009, 05:53:38 AM »
I need a favor. At one time I was certain I had run across documentation that this was
Inwald, however I could only recover 75% of my files during a a PC crash three years ago. She is signed Made in Czechoslavakia on the bottom & is a ladies makeup compact. We call her Alexandria in the US, but I think the name is simply something someone gave her. I ran through the Inwald catalogs I found on line, but evidently did not find the right one. I sincerely appreciate anyone providing a URL to the correct catalog. Thanks, Ken

Christine I'm not certain I understand your question? The base is shown in the photo & unfortunately this is the only photo I have since I sold it a couple of years ago. The base has areas for lipstick, eyebrow pencil & rouge, puff & powder, etc. I've tried to modify the original jpg to just show the base, but not certain if its good enough. Ken

Hi Ken, I think Christine means the bottom side of the base, as Inwald is known especially for highly polished shiny (mirror-finish) bases on many of their items, so that can be a good pointer towards their output.

It's a fascinating piece and I've never seen one like this before... I'd have assumed American rather than European without the Made in Czechoslovakia mark. :-[   There's nothing like it shown in Schránky Vůní - České toaletní sklo od počátků do současnosti by Jitka Lněničková,  Petr Nový a kol., (published Jablonec nad Nisou 1999).

Hopefully someone will be able to help with more information.

Need to take some pics of mine tomorrow, it's matt finished and no enamal colours left (if there were at all) Will also photograph the base, which is slightly domed I think.
No markings, also always presumed US

Thanks. All I can add is that I remember I had this piece for two years & DW was looking at it one day & said did I know it was marked Czech? Honestly the Made in Czechoslavakia was so faint that it blended in to be close to invisible. It appears in Margaret Whitmyers vanity reference "Bedroom & Bathroom Glassware of the Depression Years" & she named it Alexandria & refers to the Made in Czechoslavakia mark on the base. Ken

As I remember the base was not polished just as it might have come out of the mold with no finishing. Ken

Happy New Year everyone!  :pty:

As Ken said, it looks as if no finishing applied.
No mark that I can see due to the matt surface.
Also googled 10 years of Pressglas-Korrespondenz without success.  :-\
