If you have not solved the mystery yet, can you email me the pictures you have of the pinchbeck? I will show them to my parents (the font of all knowledge!!!). They may have an idea. As 'they don't do internet', I will get the images to them via an alternative route.

Many thanks for the offer - I have emailed the images to you. 

The suggestion of a religious / blessing aspect of the man riding the animal makes sense to me. But as it all appears to be happening on stage, is there some well-known play to which this image relates (well-known to someone other than me, that is)?

Hi all

How about Don Quixote written by Miguel De Cervantes circa 1615. Involves a Knight,an Inn and at least two young ladies.There is even a mention of someone wearing a barbers basin as an helmet.
