Topic: I.D for an amber pressed glass sugar bowl, please?

Height and diameter of four inches, weighing over a pound. The glass is thick and has a distinctive pattern as seen. I would be interested to know where it came from as it arrived in the bottom of a box I bought at auction. The base is indented and completely smooth. Any thoughts much appreciated.

Fen, your bowl is an interesting piece of glass. I checked my American books, but could not find this pattern. The color (if the color I see is the true one) reminds me of some of the American pressed glass made in the 1950-70s, but your bowl looks older to me. And it is heavier than I would expect a mid-century American piece to be. I'm curious about your bowl.

It looks like the "Derby" aka "Pinwheel" pattern.

I really can't be certain from the photo, but my guess would be either Sowerby or (less likely) Hortensja. If it's the Sowerby version, then the shape could possibly be the stand for the "Derby" salad bowl.

I am seeing a different star. The outline looks to be formed by two overlaid squares, making 8 points. I've seen this star before, but don't know the symbolic name for it. It would be unusual for North America, so I think you're right about the European source.
